Social and economic impact

As the sole supplier of heat to the city of Pécs, the plant plays a critical role in the region's social and economic development. Moreover, as a source of electricity, the plant has been instrumental in the growth of the nearby industrial zone.

Video interview of Attila Braun, Development Director, on the social and economic impact of the biomass boiler:

Expansion of PannonPower's biomass projects will have a truly significant impact on the regional economy. The energy plantations generate new business activity in the community and create jobs as well. The plant supplies heat to 30,000 apartments and power to 45 government buildings and manufacturing facilities. Approximately 100,000 residents receive heat through the network, and the electricity generated using biomass already meets virtually 100% of demand within the city of Pécs. Currently, the heat provided to the city is generated primarily using gas; we are planning to use biomass for heat production beginning in 2010. This transition from gas to biomass will help to reduce Hungary's energy dependence.
